Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an evidence-based group therapy for preventing depressive relapse and treating mood disorders. It reduces depression, anxiety and stress.

Mindfulness is a non-judgmental way of paying attention to the present moment. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is designed to bring awareness to the habitual negative thinking that leads to depressive and anxious spirals. Combined, MBCT interrupts how we habitually react to situations, so we can choose to respond in more skillful ways.

Research has demonstrated MBCT is as effective as antidepressants in the prevention of depressive relapse or recurrence. (Kuyken, 2008)

Participants Will Learn
Skills and practices to manage depression, anxiety and prevent relapse. By learning to identify the triggers and symptoms of anxiety and depression, participants can effectively address these issues as they arise in everyday life, allowing for skillful intervention before mood symptoms and negative thought patterns become more severe.

Session 5:  Allowing / Letting Be

Session 6:  Thoughts Are Not Facts

Session 8:  Endings Are Beginnings

Who Should Attend
Individuals experiencing moderate anxiety or depression and people with a history of depression.

Dates & Times:

Course runs on Thursdays 3:30-5:30pm (2hrs) September 17- November 5, 2020.  

Cost:  $695 CAD  

Payment in full due at the time of registration by e-transfer to: or credit card through our Ottawa River Psychology Group administrator at 613-656-3331. 

Fees include course handouts and guided meditations. 

Refunds available until 7 days prior to course start date.

Receipts are offered for insurance coverage by extended health insurance. Please check with your insurance plan before registering for the course if you plan to seek reimbursement and if you are not sure if your insurance provider will cover this very valuable course. Student experiences with their insurance plans have varied in the past.  Many insurance companies in Canada, the US and abroad have a history of covering this course.
