About the webinar:
While mild mood changes can be expected before or after the birth of a child, about 15-25% of mothers and about 10% of fathers experience significant symptoms of depression or anxiety. Untreated, these difficulties can have significant implications for the mental health of the parent, their partners and their children as well as have major societal implications.
In this presentation, Dr. Melisa Arias-Valenzuela will discuss perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADS) and their implications. She will also discuss how Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), a form of trans-diagnostic, evidence-based, Third-Wave Cognitive-Behavioural Psychotherapy which aims at addressing high levels of shame and self-criticism by developing compassion, can help treat PMADS.
Dr. Arias-Valenzuela will also be offering a 8 week online course teaching compassion focused skills for women struggling with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders from Sept 18-Nov 13, 2020. Click link below for more information if you are, or know of a pregnant woman (20th week or over) or a mother to a newborn (less than 1 year since delivery) who struggles with:
