Sarah Housser, M.A., Registered Psychotherapist

I have been working as a psychotherapist for almost 10 years. For the past 6 years, I was the Director of The Mindfulness Clinic, a busy clinic in downtown Toronto. In addition to helping to run the practice, I worked as a psychotherapist, seeing individuals and couples and running mindfulness-based groups.

As a Registered Psychotherapist, I have helped people with a wide range of issues, such as depression, anxiety, anger, relationship problems, addiction, parenting and family concerns, health problems, trauma, shame, and career issues.

If you come to see me for therapy I think you will find me kind and patient. I will listen very closely to understand what brings you to therapy and what you want to be different. I will tailor my approach to suit you and your goals.

I have an M.A. in Counselling Psychology from UBC. I have also done extensive training in mindfulness-based therapy and I have over 1,000 hours of personal meditation practice. For the past 5 years, I have run Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) groups. MBCT groups provide practical guidance on how to use mindfulness to manage difficulties such as depression, anxiety, health concerns, etc.

Mindfulness is the practice of putting your attention on the present moment without judging it. Often our minds are anywhere but the present and we are often very harsh with ourselves. Being present and kind to yourself can make it easier to see things more clearly and to make better decisions. As your therapist, I will be present and kind with you and can help you learn to offer this to yourself.

Evidence that therapy with me is effective

I check in on how you are doing at the beginning of every session. At the end of each session, we check in again to find out how you feel about the session. I have evidence from my last 6 years as a therapist that people who come to me for therapy make significant changes, and feel satisfied with their relationship with me.

I typically see clients for between 5 and 8 sessions. The amount of time we work together can be shorter or longer depending on the issue you want to work on and what your goals are.

I am so pleased to be part of Sogge and Associates. I would welcome the opportunity to work with you.
