Claire Beaulne, M.Ed. Supervised Practicum Psychotherapy Student

I am a mature student completing a practicum with the Ottawa River Psychology Group (ORPG).

Background and Education:

I hold an M.Ed. in Educational Counselling from the University of Ottawa, a Graduate Diploma in Organizational Learning from the Université du Québec en Outaouais and am a Certified Coach with MentorCoach. Having studied with Jon Kabat-Zinn and his team at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, I am trained as a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher. I am also a Mindful Self-Compassion Certified Teacher.

I am currently completing a post-graduate diploma in psychotherapy and while training in the therapeutic approaches used at ORPG, I am working under the licensed supervision of ORPG Clinical Director, Dr. Kimberly Sogge.   Fully bilingual, I am pleased to offer psychological services in both official languages.

I am registered with the Canadian College of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists, and my registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario is in progress.

Experience:

Prior to training as a psychotherapist, I spent 19 successful years in the organizational development and learning field, where I acted as a development, career and leadership coach and facilitator. During this period, I realized that what was most meaningful to me was helping clients consider valid alternatives to the way they deal with their issues, thereby empowering them to make choices that foster greater well-being, growth, and contentment. This realization inspired me to change my career focus, and I started working at the Distress Centre of Ottawa as a bilingual counsellor in 2014, then as a Crisis Counsellor in Health Canada’s Employee Assistance Program in 2015 before joining the ORPG for my practicum.

Approach:

In my life and career, I have made decisions based on meaning, authenticity, integrity, and service to others. I have changed my career path based on a greater alignment with these values and to better contribute to the well-being of others. On my journey as a therapist-in-training, I have witnessed a great deal of distress and pain in individuals and in workplaces. These observations, my own past struggles with anxiety, trauma, and critical self-thoughts, and the resulting insights inform my therapeutic approach. As your therapist, I will team up with you, applying a person-centered approach, mindful compassion, and attentive presence to you and your concerns. I will also demonstrate great respect for your inner resources, your courage in “showing up,” and a deep joy for the work you do to gain new perspectives, develop new skills, and make decisions toward the life you want.

The evidence-based therapies that influence my approach include Person-Centered Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Compassion-Focused Therapy. To meet the needs of my clients, I might also use elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and mindfulness interventions.

People with whom I work:

At this time, I help people with concerns such as anxiety, chronic stress, depression, career and relationship issues, low self-esteem, and difficulties adjusting to life transitions, including loss and grief.

Fees:

Psychotherapy sessions with a supervised practicum student are billed at $100 per session (a 50% reduction).  Dr. Sogge, our Clinic Director, supervises all practicum students, including the review of all cases.

I look forward to accompanying you on your journey and am delighted to join the ORPG for my practicum.
