Compassion Focused Therapy & Eating Disorder Recovery by Melisa Arias Valenzuela PhD Candidate (UQAM)

Sponsored by Ottawa River Psychology Group

Melisa Arias Valenzuela is a PhD candidate completing her doctoral research (Ph.D.-Psy.D.) at the Université du Québec à Montréal. Her doctoral study on the ways in which multicultural people identify their cultural groups and negotiate their cultural differences and the repercussions of these processes on psychological well-being was awarded a doctoral fellowship by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Melisa Arias Valenzuela brings to this professional development webinar her extensive professional training in the treatment of eating disorders, including doctoral clinical work in a bariatric surgery clinic, a university health clinic and private centres specializing in body image and disordered eating behaviours. Ms. Arias Valenzuela has specific specialized training in the Maudsley Family Based Therapy approach, the only evidence based hospital diversion treatment for adolescents with eating disorders, in Compassion Focused Therapy, and in CBT-E for adults with eating disorders. As a dedicated clinical professional, Melisa’s passion is for the integration of Compassion Focused Therapy interventions into eating disorder treatment.

In this one hour professional development webinar she will share CFT research, CFT clinical case formulation and CFT interventions with eating disorders. If there is sufficient time Melisa will offer a Q&A on Compassion Focused Therapy for Eating Disorders.

This professional development webinar is offered free as a service to the regional professional community of health care professionals, psychologists, psychotherapists and allies who support individuals and their families in recovery from eating disorders.
